The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA)
The European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP on AHA), set up in 2012, gathers stakeholders at EU, national and regional level from the public and
private sector across different policy areas. Together they share knowledge and expertise on common interests and engage in activities and projects to find innovative solutions
that meet the needs of the ageing population.
Under the framework of the EIP on AHA, the Action Group on interoperable independent living solutions works to improve the quality of life of older people by promoting the full
deployment of ICT solutions which can improve their conditions of life and independency.

BARRIERS TO THE FULL DEPLOYMENT OF ICT SOLUTIONS
ICT solutions can prolong independent living of older people

provisions economically sustainable
by avoiding and reducing hospital stays through remote monitoring, safety monitoring
TECHNICAL BARRIER:

and interoperability as current
solutions are based on single
providers and cannot interact and
be combined with other solutions
developed by different providers
or with slightly different purposes
SOCIAL BARRIER:
Lack of involvement of older
people in the design of the products
and services
ECONOMIC BARRIER:

integrated services to different contexts,
uses, providers
Empowerment of end-users: end-users
are well-informed, involved in the design
of ICT solutions and confident in
solutions that effectively meet their needs
Promotion of the use of public
procurement of innovation: enable public
authorities to launch tenders for innovative
goods or services which might not yet be
largely available on the market
Evaluation of the return on investment
of interoperable ICT solutions:
to make investment in this field attractive
for private sector

IDEAL SITUATION:
different providers offer multiple solutions
that are interoperable and can be integrated
Public Administration launches
innovative public procurement for
